How Prouva ratings work

No vanity stars. A rating is computed from what actually happened on the job — and weighted toward reviews we can verify.

How a rating is built

Three steps turn a real experience into a number you can trust.

1

You answer what happened

A short, factual survey — did they reply, show up, finish the job, honour the quote, would you use them again. No 'pick a number'.

2

We compute the score

Those facts become a 0–100 score for the review, the same way for every provider — so '4 stars' means the same thing everywhere.

3

Averaged across reviews

A provider's rating is the average of their reviews, weighted so verified and recent ones count for more.

The principles

Computed, not asked

We never ask 'how many stars?'. The score comes from facts about the job, so a rating means the same on every listing and the heat-of-the-moment is taken out.

Proof counts for more

A review backed by a quote, invoice or contract is Verified and weighs far more than an unverified one — so scores reflect real, proven jobs, not the loudest voices.

A clear average

Once a provider has any verified review, the score is the straight average of their reviews — a single verified 1.5★ review shows as 1.5★. For new providers with only unverified reviews, we gently hold the score toward neutral until a verified one confirms it, so a lone review can't swing it.

Recent matters most

Reviews lose weight as they age. A provider who was poor long ago but has improved can earn their reputation back — and stale praise can't prop up one who's slipped.

Built to stay honest

Every reviewer signs in, one review per customer per provider, no self-reviews, and we watch for unusual patterns. The wording is kept factual — emotive or unsupported content is stripped before publishing — and providers always have a right of reply.

None of this is a guarantee of any provider's work — it's an honest, fair signal to help you decide. Always read the reviews, check how recent they are, and use your own judgement.
